ROSS TURNER
 |
Ross was born and educated in
Australia. He has extensive experience in industry and small
business, with an engineering background. His life has been
enhanced with regular on-going learning - often toiling away at
night school after working all day. This has given him an array
of qualifications and interests, including being a qualified
fitter and turner, welder, sign writer and photographer. Other
studies have included a year of law, plus advertising and
marketing.
Ross has played hard too, at rugby
union, baseball, (player then umpire) racing cars and go-karts
and being a keen sailor.
He has run his own small businesses,
including a photographic studio, manufacturing workshop and a
video production business.
In the last 10 years, since Sue
initially began dabbling in worms as a hobby, Ross has become
increasingly involved in the Worm Farm. His background has
initiated much of the diversification into motorized harvester
and worm bed manufacture, video production and a support for all
other facets of the business. (Except the computer, which he is
extremely fearful of!)

SUE TURNER
 |
Sue was born and educated in England,
where she thanks her parents for instilling in her a
"thirst for knowledge." "There's no such word as
can't," was regularly heard in the family home, along with
lots of other sayings that bring a smile to her face as she
recalls her mum and dad using them.
Hit with "the travel bug" at
22,Sue traveled the overland route to Australia in 1976, fell in
love with Australia and made it her permanent home. She loves
languages, reading, being by the ocean and one day hopes to sail
extensively.
Accounting and auditing were Sue's
early background followed by some sales, marketing and public
relations, though after becoming fascinated with worm farming in
1989, many different facets became switched on. Unfulfilled
desires to be a teacher and run a successful business became a
reality as the worm farm blossomed. From 'normal worm farmers',
came the transition to teaching others the benefits and
practicalities of the business. Regular seminars were held at
the farm, attracting many locals and often people from other
states.

To satisfy the worldwide need for good information and the lack of
decent training tapes, in 1997 Sue & Ross produced "A
Practical Guide to Worm Farming" part 1, a 60 minute
educational video that is enjoying success in each continent. Part
2 followed 12 months later, looking at larger scale production,
worms in waste management and agriculture, and has received
excellent reviews on content.
During the last few years, having worked
with some very limited household worm farms and hearing their
non-performance problems regularly from the public, Ross & Sue
were very excited when late in 1998 a friend and colleague
introduced them to his new design - loaded with all the right
technology, extremely efficient, but VERY simple to use. Together
they named it "The Swag"™ (dictionary definition -
noun - a hanging or swaying bundle) and proceeded to combine their
experience to form Swag Industries to bring to the world the
ultimate household recycling tool.
